Thanks. I sold my first gun (a Ruger Security Six) in 1983 and I have regretted it ever since - I am of the opinion it was the 2.75" barrel cersion. My brother who gave it to me thnks it was the 6" so I started with the 6, but I will own all the barrel lengths :p

Right now I am high bidder on a 4" barrel one, and a 2.75" one.

Ruger's Six series are indestructible. I wish they were still being produced. US border patrol in the 80's had a contract that specified them to run 10k of full power .357 Magnum w/o excessive wear. It shrugged off that requirement easily. I briefly knew one of the evaluators at Aberdeen who did shooting for that contract. He said the assigned team of 4 took a week to shoot that much ammo. He also said even though it still had the ruger heavy double action they are known for, it was one of the smoothest revolvers he'd ever shot when they were done and felt much lighter in pull weight than it actually was.

You did quite well. I've never heard of one "wearing out".

My father bought me a Bicentennial model at Denver's, Gart Brothers Lakeside Mall Store when I got back from boot camp in 76. I turned 18 the day I flew home. One of my dispatchers told me how to do a trigger job on it in 2008. I've ran many thousands of rounds thru it. Picked up a spare cylinder assembly and next year I'm sending it to TK Custom to get that cylinder cut for 38 Super . Then It will handle 5 calibers by adding 38 Super, 9mm Luger and 380 Auto to the 38 Special and .357 Magnum.

I used to think the Ruger revolvers were indestructible. I got a Redhawk from an estate sale. It felt a little sloppy but, hey, they're indestructible. I compared it to my Dad's early production Redhawk which has maybe one box of factory ammo through it, it was as indeed sloppy. Maybe Ruger made them to a much higher standard early in production. Maybe the previous owner shot the heck out of it. Don't know.

MidwayUSA had the parts commonly worn out according to the internet. Once replaced, about half the slop was gone but nowhere near as tight as my Dad's revolver. Bottom line, the Redhawk and Security Six revolvers are built like the proverbial brick shit house but they do wear.
 
Guy at the range today had a S&W .45ACP revolver he insisted I try. OK, 3rds double-action, 3rds single-action, I shot good, ejected the 6rd moon clip with cases and set the gun down. "So you ready to go out and buy one (ie: revolver) now?" "One of these days I will." ;) He did mention how he liked Ruger revolvers and a GP was on his list so there is that. :)
 
I like my Super Redhawk Alaskan in 454 Casull. Every round is punishing and it has held up well. The timing/lockup is still perfect. It's the perfect gun for dispatching a 500 pound predator. I keep it in a Gunfighters chest rig.

There are no grizzlies where I am now, so I more commonly strap on a G20 when out in the woods. I still prefer the Ruger. A revolver is a better choice for bear, especially if Yogi is already on top of you. A wheel gun cant go out of battery when you are in a grapple. The odds are slim but it can happen.
