One of many concepts I learn from MGB safety video was system of safeties.

Some of obvious one are...

No live ammo
No drinking
No distraction

One that I like the most was separation of upper and lower in different gun safes.

For me, with one limited safe real-estate, it's not possible. But at least I can make it extra layer of safety. Also, having young kids I want all the safeties.

AR 556 & AR 22, I have taken firing pin out and stored that in different secure location.

Of course I would not do this to home defense firearms. Only to range toys.

I believe that information and education is the best solution for safety. My Dad started me at 7 yrs old. Before I could shoot anything, we would disassemble/ clean/ reassemble while I named off each part in order of assembly and described its function.
Not only quality time spent with my Dad, but a learning and enjoyable activity. Ive had a handgun within my reach since that age.
Million years ago- I taught firearms classes. 1 thing I found COMPLETELY bizarre was that even people with experience handling firearms knew little of the mechanics.
Typically I started class on the range with a picked individual to shoot a revolver. I would place a fastfood napkin over the frame to demonstrate cylinder gap and plasma discharge. After the confetti show we would return to class hopefully with a new respect for what we were playing with.
Knowledge is power and shit happens.
My grandfather would disable all the firearms anytime my cousins were coming. Mostly because they were idiots. Lol
I have everything in safes.
