Thanks, Alex!
I don't want to put velcro on the receiver, either, fwiw. Yes it's a great option and place for extra ammo, though. but those other options for that area are pretty bulky if one wants a folding stock. For reasons I can't explain, I cannot bring myself to put Velcro on a gun. I know it can be strong and hold well but I just cant do it. Ive used bandoleers and belt rigs. I'm not a huge fan of Safariland holsters, but their perforated belt with the inner belt is the bomb. I used that belt along with the Safariland 8 shell holster with some success in 3 gun and 2 gun match play.
One of my Shockwaves has a side saddle. It's all aluminum. Works well. My 940 Pro also has a side saddle with an aluminum base and plastic 'clips' that hold the shells.
Optics... My 940 Pro has a CT HRO (made for heavy recoil) mounted directly on the Pic rail and so far it has stayed put and held zero. Very happy with it.

I think the advantage of the side saddle is mainly home defense. Thus ideal for the Shockwave. Nobody is going to put on a belt when there’s a bump in the night. One stock option you guys missed - if you like the Shockwave and you like the 1301 why not combine the two? There are adapters available that will allow one to install any Mossberg 500/590 stock on your 1301.
I was not crazy about the velcro on the side either but it does not add bulk to the gun. It is a rather svelte boomstick, or was until I started bolting things to it. A side saddle would add even more bulk.
I have been watching videos of people quad loading off a competition style belt, seeing it done well is one of those human activities that is elegant to watch. There is one curly haired pro shooter who is among the best!
An M1917 would probably discourage anyone from getting into clubbing distance. The Shockwave... birdshead is fine with me. It also makes for a fine club if you miss six times and run out of shells.
Only if you live in a trench in Verdun, France. An M1917 would probably discourage anyone from getting into clubbing distance.

I have not cleaned mine yet. I did discover as you mention that the capacity of 7 is based on the slightly shorter European buck shells. Or so I was told. Slugs were fine. Same as you. I haven’t run any birdshot thru it yetI did a complete teardown for cleaning, it was filthy!
While putting it back together I left out the magazine spring retainer and was able to get 7 rounds of the Federal 00 buck into the tube. Before only 6 would fit while it would accept 7 rounds of the slightly shorter slug and birdshot cartridges.

The plug is there to prevent an unpleasant jack-in-the-box experience when dismantling the gun. Remind me to hang on to the magazine plug next time I take this thing apart. I got a taste of that when cleaning the bolt assembly, its spring came flying out at me.
BTW, the pdf manual for this thing leaves a bit to be desired. Does a seperate armorer's manual exist?
I too, find the downloadable ‘manual’ cheep and lacking. It’s understood that this tactic is a cost-saving measure for many companies today; but hey this is a Beretta, and the manual sucks and is composed by someone who must have been on a lithium and LSD cocktail. I’m hoping there will be a third party offering that’s streamlined/simplified and to the point. The Beretta PDF is like an Andy Warhol bad dream.I did a complete teardown for cleaning, it was filthy!

BL- I like that solution much better than the gg&g “mag tube cover”. Very cool. This doesn't increase capacity beyond 7 but it is metal: MXT Beretta 1301 Extension for Tactical Model
I think I'm going to order this and also the low friction follower.
I suppose you could use a coupler and add another extension. Or use a 3rd party tube made for the competition model. It would protrude well beyond the muzzle though. The only problem with that is the tube tends to get dirty and burned. But that's just cosmetic.

Sadly it doesn't appear this one will work with the 1301 Mod 2 tactical. I find this a bit confusing. Must fit the 5-round "tactical" model methinks....I thought it might be a better choice than the GG&G. Have at it!
It appears the 5 shot has a shorter OEM tube than the 7, and then beretta slips a polymer cover over the exposed 2 shot portion of said 7 shot tube, hence gg and g stating it’s a metal COVER that replaces the polymer OEM cover and they state it’s NOT a mag extension, just a cover. Go figure. I think I’m reading it right.View attachment 28723
Strange. How do they do this ? (Above)
I’m having a hard time believing the 5 shot is different from the 7 as far as the mag extension fitment goes. the threads, etc.
Now I’m intrigued. It’s just a threaded tube with a matching spring
