If you are in the Charleston / Mt. Pleasant SC area, and you like German food, Nick's is the place for you.
The owner, Nick, owned a restaurant in Germany before coming to the US and brought his culinary delights with him.
4.5-to-5-star ratings on all the Foodie sites. Restaurant is small and cozy, so reservations are a must. Food is outstanding. Authentic German beer beyond what you see in the grocery store.

This was our second visit. We had eaten there last year and went back to see if lightning strikes twice, and it turned out it does! The wife's family is German and she compares it to what she remembers growing up and gave it two thumbs up. (y)(y)

I had the Weiner Schnitzel. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Most places I've had the Schnitzel, it is not crispy like this. Fried potatoes were nicely done and not over cooked.

The wife had the Jager Schnitzel. Very tender with flavorful Jager sauce with mushrooms, red cabbage, and spätzle. They marinate this for two weeks to achieve this.

For dessert, we had the chocolate soufflé. Light and fluffy chocolate pastry with liquid chocolate center. Served hot with vanilla ice cream. Pure decadence.
(This has a 25-minute prep time, so plan ahead.)

The wife also enjoyed this wine that is served hot with dried oranges and a cinnamon stick. Now she on a hunt to see who sells it.

When my FIL was alive we'd go HERE about once a month. He was Hitlerjungen in the '30s before his family moved to the US around 1937. In WW2, while allowed to serve, due to his heritage he couldn't serve overseas and trained flight crews and built barracks and such. In his desk and probably used daily, he still had the knife they gave all boys in HJ but sans swastika.

My grandparents on my mom's side were Germans from Russia (both born in Odessa) and we got good German food at any reuinon or when we'd go visit all the aunts who at that time lived in the same small town except us and one other family.

My grandfather on my dad's side was German as well, bit he died well before I was born, so I am not sure what they ate.

Haven't had good German food in years.

The only place I am sure I can get it is at Bayern Brewery in Missoula but I;d need to book a room within walking distance, because brewery 🤣

Maybe I should start concentrating on my German roots and learn to cook German food instead of looking at Sri Lankan and Filipino food 😀

Me neither--we are forced to commiserate over a tasty German Doppelbock or Pils... ;)

My FIL had a lady friend, Krista, from the old country. She would come over for dinner and bring homemade wienerschnitzels and sauerkraut. 😋 It's been at least a decade since I've had a good German meal... :(

Mmmm! There's a place in Granbury, TX that has an authentic German restaurant owned by a woman from Germany who really maintains authenticity. Now, in spite of being of dominant German heritage, I've never personally had this in Germany for a point of reference- but I CAN tell you it is delicious, and another friend of mine who's had the real thing vouched for its authenticity- and yes, even their Bier. So good!!!

Thanks for sharing the deliciousness!

I used to occasionally pass thru Germany on my way to or from the US. When I could, I'd devote a few days to be a tourist. An old friend who lived in Munich used to take me to his favorite places out in the Bavarian countryside. I acquired a taste for good southern German cuisine. These places were family run for ages. I liked the beer too. ;)

I took four years of German in high school and my friend politely asked me to stop trying to speak German. He said people don't know WTF you are saying to them :) He pointed out that I told the cute girl greeting us at the restaurant door I wished her a good night and that I would like to eat her.

I thought she giggled because she liked me.

She might have liked you a lot if you proved to be the cunning linguist you alluded to... o_O

The brewery and biergarten in Missoula that I referenced is owned by a Bavarian, and the brewery is named for Bavaria

One of my former pickup lines:

I was granted an Aer Lingus platinum award. Would you like to join me in Dublin for a long weekend?

I like it.
But the intended victim must possess the intellectual capacity to get the double entendre and are worldly enough to not think you are referring to a new sneaker by Nike and a trip to the boondocks of middle Georgia... 😯

So, it would not work on the locals here who, as Jeff Foxworthy says, are blessed with a "glorious lack of sophistication".

True. I lived in Roswell for a couple of years.

I would go there for sure.
