Pentagon panel recommends bases stop selling guns to troops under 25 to fight suicides
The Department of Defense has received a report from its Suicide Prevention and Response Independent Review Committee calling for stricter gun control on bases.
<<<<In the committee's report, released Friday, the independent body recommends, "On DoD property, raise the minimum age for purchasing firearms and ammunition to 25 years."
The committee designated the suggested ban on gun purchases for soldiers under 25 as "high priority" and a factor that "must change."
The report goes on to suggest several other alterations to gun laws on DOD property that reflect common gun control tactics, including suggestions to "implement a 7-day waiting period for any firearm purchased on DoD property" and "develop a national database for recording serial numbers of firearms purchased on DoD property.">>>
First... I don't recall ever seeing guns for sale on base (or at the exchange). Maybe I missed it.
Secondly, what do they expect to accomplish when service members can go OFF base and buy them without the silly restrictions?
Thirdly... You trust these soldiers to carry a gun in battle (and not commit suicide on the battlefield and maybe some friendly fire to take some with them)?? But, you don't trust them to purchase a personal firearm?
Fourthly... It's a SUICIDE problem, not a GUN problem. Perhaps we should address the MENTAL HEALTH issues instead?? You. Stupid. STUPID. FUCKS.
