Always have been mildly enamored of the Savage 99, just never could find the right one.
Finally lucked up on this one at a recent gun show.
This is Savage's Deluxe take down model. Made in 1932 and if it's been fired, it wasn't much.
Caliber is 30-30 and was the other reason I bought it. All the original proprietary Savage calibers are obsolescent and ammo and brass are getting harder to get.
Factory optional Lyman tang sight with dual apertures.
Schnabel forend.
Shot gun butt plate.
Cartridge counter.
Rust bluing with case hardened lever.
Receiver is monogrammed A.L.S. No clue who that might be. Might have to spring for a factory letter and hope it reveals who the owner was.
This was a deluxe rifle bought during the height of the depression. The owner had to have been someone of means.
Here's a few pics.
Factory optional take down. The threads are very closely fitted.
Monogram of mystery owner. Anyone have any suggestions?
Savage logo on steel butt plate. no plastic here!
Not presentation grade, but still a niece piece of walnut.
Optional Lyman tang sight.
Pristine rust bluing. No evidence of seeing field use.
Bore is perfect.
Factory cartridge counter. Rotary magazine holds 5 rounds.
