With health concerns and physical limitations of my spouse, bugging in is our first choice unless the excrement hitting the rotating air mover is only local such as wildfires and the like. Bugging out would only be an option as long as motor vehicles are still viable and roadways are open.
Zombie apocalypse or city slicker exodus in search of sustinance and security is going to be met with some resistance from my neighbors as several of them are brothers and I'm sure they will stick together as their own commune as long as they can to defend it.
Will we be safe from them once they realize how much food we have stockpiled is a question that I don't have an answer to just as I couldn't say how much any of them have stocked. Still working on growing a relationship with them without giving up opsec or seeming like I am probing them to determine their supply status.
We are rural on the end of a dead end road with the shortest distance between dwellings being 300 yards and the smallest property being 15 acres. Lots of woods as well as pasture enough to keep meat grazing as long as a security team can be put in place to watch over the herd.
Yes I have security cameras and solar power system and could live off grid indefinitely as long as an EMP doesn't take that out but I also know that I can't watch the cameras for any threats in the dark after spending the day working on whatever needs attention after an incident puts us into one of these scenarios. No delusions of grandeur here either.
Yes there's enough people to do everything that would need to be done IF everyone within the immediate area can get their act together and come together as a team to accomplish it but I don't hold my breath in anticipation of that happening. Still sucking on breath mints while trying to nurture the necessary relationship.
