Twrench calibration?

Freinds, anyone ever send a Torque Wrench to somebody for calibration?
Some years ago my little brother gifted to me a used Proto 1\4" inch pound torque wrench.
It's a sweet little wrench. Probably not cheap when new either.
Now I got to thinking, the last certification paper in the box is from 2000, it's of unknown providence, and who knows what sort of goof originally owned it.

I am wondering if getting it calibrated might be a smart move?
I have always worked on the premise that millions of bubbas have uggaduggaed and feel clicked all sorts of shit and that ANY torque wrench is better than nothing.
But I would like to be better than that.
 
At work we had Proto 3/8" and 1/2" torque wrenches.
Proto recommends calibration every 5000-7000 cycles. The cost the last time I sent them off was about $100 ea. Not sure how much of that was the dealer fee to ship it off.

What we did was purchase a tester to check the accuracy of the settings. I would test the wrenches monthly at 1/3, 2/3, and full value. Three pulls and average the results at each setting. If the readings were within 10% of the set torque value, the wrench passed. If not, then we sent it back to Proto.

A Proto 1/4" drive click type torque wrench runs about $200.

If you have a Proto dealer near you, ask what it cost, or email Proto direct.
Or if you have a buddy that works at a plant that has a tester like I had, he might be able to get the tool guy to check it for you.
