Reminder: This isn't a joke meme thread. The purpose here is to share interesting things that are INSPIRATIONAL or truly thought provoking. Deeper than silly jokes or political memes.

Watch the video below, reportedly John McAfee's last recorded words.

I seriously doubt John McAfee committed suicide in a Spanish prison awaiting extradition.

This is the kind of stuff this thread is intended for. Again... not political memes! We've got other threads for those.

I want to like this ten times.

Personally, my life changed for the better and I was happier when I stopped giving a fuck what anybody else thinks. Including parents, friends, co-workers, siblings. In a similar vein, I disconnected from all the negative people in my life and refuse to let any new ones in. My closest friends are people I have known since elementary school. Some high school. It's amazing to me how many people find this weird.

Probably the best advice in all of this? Letting shit go. Of all the sage advice he mentions... this is the hardest thing for most people to do. Many simply cannot do it. The world is in a state of constant change and always has been. Embrace it or be unhappy and angry. It's a choice you make. Being pissed off every day will shorten your life. Guaranteed.

Agree!

I think #2 - Do not tell people your plans - is probably the best advice of the entire list. Why? Because people want to see you do well... They just don't want to see you do better than them. When you tell people your plans, they will do their best to sabotage your plans, if only by suggesting that they are not possible. Which ties into #1: STFU... which I'm getting better at... finally, a bit late in life.

I have a hard time with this... but not with change in the world. I have a hard time letting go of things other people have done to me or said to me. Most notably, the way close friends and family have treated me due to my position on all things covid.

But yeah, as you mentioned, my "circle" of friends / family has gotten much smaller. It used to be HUGE. I never gave a shit before, and even less now, about what others think.... Which is why so many of my friends and family have turned on me. HA!

You have to either separate from people who hate or reject you because of your point of view. Or reconcile. That door also has to swing both ways. If you dwell on the fact people rejected you for disagreeing, then you have not heeded both the quit giving a shit what other people think and let it go rules for happy living.

There's nothing wrong with taking a position on something and holding to it. Insisting that everyone agree with you is where the seeds of discontent are sown. Lots of people can't debate without getting angry or making it personal.

Me.... re: COVID... somebody wants to get a booster jab once a month and wear a mask when alone in their car ? I don't care. Hate guns? I don't care. A man who wears dresses? I don't care. Athiest? I don't care. Queer? I don't care. Blue hair, ring in the nose? I don't care. Vegan? I don't care.

On the other hand.. get in my face with any of that in person, I just walk away. Zealots never change their mind. They just go mad from years of stress and anxiety. Let them wallow in their misery. On the rare occasion an interaction or disagreement becomes physical, that isnt going to end well for the aggressor. There's only one warning issued.

Well, they separated from me. From my perspective that's permanent. There is no reconciliation unless THEY admit what they did (dumping me) was wrong. Not a single one has offered that. So, they rejected / excommunicated me first. I'm letting go by considering the move permanent. But I will admit to harboring resentment over it.

Of course, I never insisted anyone agree with me. I was very up front about respecting others' decisions to get the shots, wear the masks, distancing, etc. The problem was they could not return the favor and respect my decision to not do those things.

Naturally, many would ask WHY I refused. When I cited actual Science (in the form of peer reviewed literature and explaining why that is actual Science as opposed to what they're being told on TV and the interwebz)... they would get VERY angry.... aka... experience the pain of cognitive dissonance.

Same here. I no problem at all with others living the way they choose to live. I have a BIG problem when they insist I follow in their footsteps or even feign indulgence in their delusions. You live your life, I'll live mine. But they cannot do the same.

Anyhoo... I don't want to derail the thread too much. I thought it was a good video.
