Video Hot brass down shirt --> almost shooting the range worker behind him!

2. The guy in the video could have and should have put the gun on the bench. It even looked like he was about to do so, but didn't.

3. Should he be kicked out of the range? Yes.
Should the range use the footage in a training video on what not to do and have all new shooters watch it? Yes.
Will people have the presence of mind, after watching the video to put the gun down first before trying to relieve their pain, some may, some may not.

4. Comparing a pistol case down the collar to a rifle case is apples to oranges. You can "shake loose" a pistol case and if your shirt tail is untucked, it will fall to the floor.
One of my team mates had a hot 5.56 case go into his sleeve and land in the crook of his elbow. Only sat there a second as he shook his arm to dislodge the case. He had a silhouette of a 5.56 case burned into his arm. Took over a year to fade away.
Agree. I've had both. 5.56 is worse. In my case (also prone) it also landed on my bare arm and didn't bounce off. It stuck and sizzled! I did the same thing... Shook my arm to send it onto the ground.

So you can't just put the rifle down, it's tied to your arm by the sling.
Good point I had not considered. I wasn't tied to my gun by a sling.

Ban slings! ;)

I've got a fairly fresh scar from a .22LR case melting its way into the inside of my elbow while shooting the 15-22 lefty. I probably should have/could have shook my elbow a little to get the case to fall off.

I brought my kids to an Appleseed event when they were 10/12yo. I think the premise and concept is a good one. I didn't realize it was going to be elbow-to-elbow on the firing line. I especially didn't realize there were going to be ARs in attendance. It would have been OK if they were all shooting .22LRs but hot .223 cases were landing all over everybody including my kids. The venue was also laid out so there was potential for shots to come in from the side if one went over the berm from another range! At the first break I told the organizer we were leaving and would be requesting a refund and he was OK with that. We went to OUR range and shot instead.

I modified the aerial view 10 years ago because it didn't reflect the then current berms that had been put in place. The red lines are the berms for the shooting "bays". The arrow was where we were. The bay to the right was shooting steel (ie: spalling) and note the bays are facing across and towards each other! Maybe I was being a pussy but I noted this as I took a walk around the premises (I wasn't shooting). I just didn't have a good feeling about the setup... I will credit them with changing their setup since then as shown in the last pic (aerial view) clipped today.

I cant say for sure, but looking at the muzzle flash I don't see how those two rounds hit anywhere near that sweeper guy's feet. More like hip, torso.

In seeking an answer to this mystery I discovered this video is six years old.
