I'm starting to get the itch. Fortunately, I've got several I can choose from... and have most of the internal parts.

Now, I just have to decide which one to start! Well... I can narrow it down to the ones I have a slide for.

Though I haven't really finished "The Tank." I've had trouble with the barrel accuracy. I think I got a bum barrel. Thinking about getting a Barstow barrel to replace it.

Maybe a slightly shorter ported barrel? Just a little longer than the spike... :unsure: It IS one of the nicer P80-based guns I've seen.

This was an inexpensive "surplus" barrel I found on eBay. I don't think it has anything to do with the length.
 
If you have a known good barrel from another build, I would try that first. Could be the slide causing problems, not the barrel.

It wouldn't hurt to look at the crown under magnification and see it there are any burrs. Same with the ports. Scrapping the bullet right before it exits wouldn't be good. If you have a machinist square handy, check that the muzzle is square.

Now that Midway USA is stocking the gen 5 G20/21 trigger bar you can be the first kid on the block with a large frame P80 pewing with a gen 5 trigger. I converted my Lone Wolf 10mm & 45 guns this week, this same parts combo should work in a P80 with the additional step of beveling the left side arch of the trigger housing to get it to sit down in the frame. The gen 5 trigger housing is 65578. As far as I can tell nobody is stocking it yet but we can make our own with parts that are available now.
  • 33813 trigger bar. Swap the trigger shoe for the gen 3 trigger of your choice.
  • 5406 or 8203 trigger housing, you are only going to use the 8196-2 ejector out of these.
  • 47208 9mm gen 5 trigger housing. Remove the ejector, install the 8196-2 in its place.
  • 7965 gen 5 "dot" connector.
  • 33784 gen 5 rear slide cover plate, or whatever gen 5 rear plate you like. I only use gen 5 slide plates as most of my guns have gen 5 triggers and as a bonus you can see your sear engagement without needing to install an armorors plate.
All other parts, including the trigger pin, are gen 3.

While you will still have a stock Glock trigger it does feel better than the gen 3 version. I do like the idea of having my 10mm barrel locking block supported by 2 more pins than the OEM Glock version of this gun. I am sure Glock has heavily tested this setup for reliability but I would gladly give up the ambi slide release for an extra locking block pin.

Why is a Gen 5 trigger preferable?
 
Takeup is slightly less mushy and the reset feels a little nicer. For most people it is not worth the trouble and expense of converting an existing gen 3 gun to a gen 5 trigger. But since we are sourcing each and every part I think it is preferable to start with the gen 5 trigger.
 
Ohyeah, I forgot about that.
 
I want to pick up a PF940V2 and make a G17, I just can't justify $250+ for only a frame and jig. SCOTUS needs to hurry up already and put the ATF in their place so P80's can be reasonably priced again.

Interesting as comments I have heard in general are that the Gen5 triggers are not preferred. I have a Gen5 G19 and can't say I think the trigger is anything special. Maybe even slightly less than a Gen3 to me - then again I have fired and dry fired Gen3 a lot more given the number of P80 builds I have done.
 
Its not a big deal to put a Performance trigger into a gen 3. just modify the housing and put a gen 5 back plate on. I've done it twice now and works great. Change out the shoe with a Ranger Proof shoe shortens the take up all for a 3.5 lbs trigger with a fast reset.
 
G20 gen 5 parts are in the mail.

It could be my imagination but the Gen 5 design seems to allow the sear to float up. I didn't have marginal sear engagement on the G19 I converted to Gen 5 when I did have marginal sear engagement with Gen 3 parts.

I modified my PF45 frame to take any and all trigger housings. It took all of 10 seconds. The frame is the known out of spec part not the trigger housings. I couldn't let that stand.
 
One hundred rounds down the tube of my Lone Wolf G41 newly converted to gen 5 trigger today. It worked perfectly! The reset was a little less than what I am used to and had a couple of shots pop off before I was quite back on target. Something to pay more attention to. šŸ˜¬

You reminded me of something else I Iike about gen 5 triggers. Sear engagement on all but one of my guns with gen 5 triggers have been 90% +.

Gen 5 parts installed. Crisper and cleaner pull. I used a + connector and the pull weight is about the same as Gen 3 with dot connector but a tad shorter pull. Still crisper and more pleasant pull. Full sear engagement. Had one Gen 5 back plate, converted another. about a 2 minute process with a x-acto knife.

There must have been a cinco de mayo party in the shipping dept at Midway. They shorted me one trigger. A quick email to them and they said they would send my MAGAZINE right out. Another quick email to clarify that it is a trigger not a magazine. No telling what I will get in the mail.
