Phase 3 of 1301 Mod 2 build...

I went to test out some different ammo yesterday in the plinking pit that I use for such activities and the target had been shredded by some knucklehead shooting birdshot. He left the empty hulls scattered all over the ground adding insult to injury.

Paper plate targets are a blessing in that situation as they are self supporting, I just need enough wood or fibreboard to hold a single staple. I kinda like the fact that I can staple the plate to the edge of the target and not cause any new holes in the target.

One time I was there some guys showed up with a homemade 40mm destructive device. That's the legal definition but his one shot hit the wood upright of the target, breaking it in half and rendering it useless. An apt description. Shotgun slugs are lots smaller than that but I also avoid shooting the club's targets with em. Call me a Fudd if you will.

A couple of days ago, somebody at our local range (members only) was shooting full auto. There's a local business about half a mile away. Some concerned citizen shopping there heard the gunfire and called the state police, claiming someone was firing "illegal automatic weapons". Probably some white middle aged Yankee bitch and her cuck husband who moved here yesterday.

Now... we do have a rule about full auto. Not allowed. But this is a members only club and there aren't a lot of members. So sometimes the rules get bent. When I shoot on my own property, I'm more conservative during the holidays because gun fire can be heard a mile away and if people have guests, it may cause concern if I'm shooting a lot. So I keep my home range time short and not during the times a lot of people are sitting around a dinner table or eating breakfast. As a courtesy.

It helps if you / we can hit the target. If that's a problem with slugs, maybe shootin' isn't for that person.

At the outdoor range with the Shockwave, which is harder to shoot than a normal long shotgun.

Wednesday are range maintenance days. I get Tuesdays off and am often shooting because nobody else is there at that time. Somedays the targets are a usless pile of shredded fiberboard and splinters. Yes, I understand they are meant to be shot at and do get replaced regularly. But it sucks to show up and not be able to put up a target. Life got better after putting a Bongo Lewi Econo Target pack in my trunk.

Slugs might be an even bigger problem if you shot at my range because you CAN hit the target. šŸ˜† Every one of those 3/4 inch holes is another place that won't hold a staple. Shoot enough of them and there is a giant hole. It might just be an issue with how my particular range is set up with fiber backers and 1 week maintenance intervals. But one of my goals is to leave a usable target stand behind for the next peeps after I am finished with my range session.

Re: full auto. My range does permit full auto in the plinking pits. People play rock-n-roll on the regular. Plus the police range next door and the Air Force range across the arroyo get plenty of full auto usage so I am used to hearing it. But yesterday the guys in the berm next door cut loose with something LOUD and FAST! I about jumped out of my skin! Maaaaybe not a bad reaction if I encounter it IRL?

A bunch of 9-mm makes a big hole in the middle, too. Ask me how I know. It doesn't interfere with staples or taping a target at all. The staples or tape are used in the four corners, not the center.

So, they won't allow shotguns at all... because they assume bird shot. Easily fixed. They just would rather not.
They do have a Trap n Skeet range, so those are allowed

So this last NYE….we did bring it in with a BANG.

Lol almost a year since its original purchase date, I lit off 3 rounds of high base US Military Olin buckshot into a tall burm….wifey shot a cylinder full of .38sp Rem MC in her birthday SDR, and I ran my FN reflex….it was wet, ugly and gently raining. We went back inside, in spite of our rain slickers, the weather was pretty yuck and it wasn’t any fun. Very cold rain, too.

Though the recoil was definitely 12ga-esque, the 1301 was so much more manageable, comfortable even, than a pump. So much better. I loved it. It seemed to be hitting where I pointed it, though there were 3 rounds fired they went without a hitch….and its weapon light was used during all 3 trials. So good and glad I bought it. Wonderfully lit the area.

Meanwhile, my Reflex with 115gr Fmj had two FTF, and yes it has a low SN (41000 range) with the original squared, (not beveled like the newer ones), extractor that seems to have been a problem in the past with the earlier ones.. Next range trip coming I’ll see if it persists or breaks-in before I contact FN and ship it to them.

My wife’s SDR, though a hoot, seems to have two chambers where the fired brass does not want to be ejected without some persuasion from the other end of the cylinder (like with a drift, punch or pencil. Not good. The shell casings were old stock but new Remington and are clean. I’ll check the cylinder chambers for any debris I may have missed, or they just need to be dressed properly in which I’ll have Diamondback fix it.

I read an article about a somewhat new Diamondback 9mm snubby. I think it was in G&A. Overall, it wasn't a bad review. They did mention brass getting stuck, difficult to eject.

Maybe remove the cylinder, chuck up a 9mm/.38 nylon brush in a drill, dab a little toothpaste and a drop of oil on the brush and with drill on low-speed, go in and out of the chamber 5-6 times, repeat for each chamber. šŸ¤”

Great idea, thanks, and along the lines I was thinking. I need to get a .38 nylon chamber brush as all I’ve at the moment are the usual copper ones.

Overall, this is an awesome .357 snubby and I want one for myself.

Amazon sells felt polishing nibs. I buy those by the bag. I use them once and toss. Great for polishing gun parts. I usually use Flitz with these. It’s not too aggressive

BL- I have an assortment of those, and was thinking that might be even better!! Flitz too, onhand. WOOT.
Our kids just arrived for a few days' stay at 10:30pm from Kentucky and after they leave I'm going to inspect those chambers and give them the treatment. Hopefully it will mitigate having to send it to Diamondback.

The extractor on the Reflex is another issue, but I think FN should make it right, as it was a pretty common problem with the earlier Reflex models. I know I can remove it and round/bevel the bottom corner of the claw, but I'd rather FN fix it at the factory. We'll see.

Mine both have the original extractor. One black, the other FDE. I was unaware of the defect. Haven't seen any issues with either so far. I'd rather they just send me the part and call it a day, but some companies just won't do that. Not as a warranty thing. They will probably sell the part though. We discussed this a while back. My experience with the Reflex has been very good. It's a terrific subcompact and the trigger is awesome for a small striker gun. Every bit as good as the P365 and more svelte than my trusty Hellcat. Sig has more options if you want to customize though. Several choices in plastic and metal grip frames, slide upgrades, etc.

Yes I clearly recall those discussions and I couldn’t recall for sure but I thought you said they ran flawlessly. Thanks.

FWIW, that one pictured is the original design and does not appear to have the beveled edge at the bottom claw corner like the new ones. Again I’ll feed it about another 100 rounds or two and see if it clears-up before contacting FN…. if the weather holds as forecast, we’ll be at the range this week. We’ve had just nasty cold rainy weather with 8ā€ of rain in less than one month.

I've neglected to keep track of how many rounds I've put thru the Reflex. I can only guess. So far so good though. Most of the time in my sub compact pistols I'm running Fiocchi 124 gr. Sometimes 115 gr.
