SCT17 "Ray Gun" Build Diary

I can't learn to love chameleon. I don't know why.
Yeah... normally it's not my jam. But I thought it might fit in here. Still thinking about it.

Leave the barrel as-is and Cerakote the upper front half, curved part of the slide orange. Same color as the frame.
I like that idea. Question is... who and how? Who to do it? And how to match that exact color?

The sight is purely cosmetic. In keeping with the ray gun theme. I put one of those Snake Eye sights on a G34 just for yuks. It works fine if you are a peep sight kinda guy. Or your eyesight isn't so good.

Getting that slide Cerakoted is pretty easy. There are shops everywhere. There's probably one local to you. The cerakote web site can help you find a shop in your nick of the woods.

My favorite go-to for custom Cerakote is Mad Custom Coating in Anaheim, CA. They do quotes online. Top quality work.

Send the frame with it. They will match the color

Get the threaded barrel so you can install the Loudener:

Loudness devices or Glock breast pumps?

Oh shit... I found a shop quite close to where I live!

I think I've gotta do it! Stay tuned!

OK, @Bongo Lewi and the rest of you aminals... I've done some photoshop slide cerakote simulation...

There are some round indentations on the slide that might also look cool with the orange cerakote treatment. See what you think!

OK... Now I photoshopped a spectrum barrel (threaded) into it. The photoshop job is crude overall, but somewhat simulates the effect. Whattaya think?

If memory serves, @Caleb has a place on the west coast of Florida that he's had work done by before and was quite happy with their work. 🤔

Playing a bit more with photoshop. Added some orange ceracote to a panel on the rear of the slide.

I've mentioned this before... But to me, a big part of the fun of building is working out the vision of the build and hunting down the parts and components. It's a process and evolution.

And it's cool, because you can't really go out and just buy a gun like this ready-made. Accordingly, these builds are "one-of-a-kind."

I played a little more with photoshop and colored in the valleys between the "fins" on the slide in front of the barrel hood.

And front fins colored but without rear panel:
(I think I like this the best)

The spectrum barrel gives a Rainbow Sherbet vibe paired with that orange. Seems almost a shame to consider Cerakote on that slide - it is pretty slick already.

Like this? Alternatively a regular (non-threaded) barrel.

I like the chameleon barrel in general, I have one on my Purple build and it fits. Two me you already have two focal points - the orange frame and the awesome slide. The chameleon barrel in this case detracts those two points by adding a third which doesn't really tie in.

Thinking everything else should be subtle "accents" not focal points. A barrel matching the pins, slide stop, slide lock and maybe even the sites/trigger - if all stainless that might work. I kind of liked the work up with the stainless pins, ties the frame to the slide if you will.

Of course, like fashion, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so ultimately it is what you like.

I'm leaning that way, too. The silver barrel looks right to me.

But a custom two-tone cerakote job on the slide should look right for the theme. Also the sights @Bongo Lewi referred me to!

What about the Leupold Deltapoint Micro, for that ray gun look?
