Toyota has given up on EVs. Not.

Chump change. Ford lost 30 BILLION
I've seen pimped out Lightnings with a sticker price of $99K. Even a low end trim model is $63-$65K.
If you're gonna drink the Lightning bug Kool-Aid, better to buy a used one and save $25K.

No. It was worse than Ford. $6B loss was for ONE year... 2024. You didn't click the link, did ya? 😛

Another issue- dried up, capped wells that are found refilled obviously didn’t take a million years to refill. And there have been many instances of this.

And this is one of the reasons I would not buy a Tesla. Unnecessary gadgetry where a simple mechanical door handle would serve just as well. They can make a flush mechanical door handle, GM and American Motors had them in the 60's. Not rocket science.
But all new cars are overly complex in the name of convenience. And that's great until it stops working and the tech at the dealership is unable to fix it. (Not talking about you @NavyVet83) ;)
I refuse to touch EV's.. I dont know anything about them and refuse to learn. If I wanted to deal with those things, I would've went to a trade school/joined a union and became an electrician. A hybrid I will tolerate if I absolutely must but still avoid when I can...

From the same article I posted above:

General Motors’ EV sales fell by an eye-popping 43% between the third and fourth quarters (with a total of 169,887 EVs sold in the U.S. in all of 2025), indicating that the tax credit was a big motivator for many buyers. “With the termination of certain consumer tax incentives and the reduction in the stringency of emissions regulations, industry-wide consumer demand for EVs in North America began to slow in 2025,” said GM in its filing. “As a result, GM proactively reduced EV capacity.”

If the product had inherent value or merit, it would sell without HUGE gov't subsidies. Ah, but it doesn't.

Meanwhile, China is selling EVs like crazy.

We need an intervention to cure Racer of his phobias. o_O
These EV and NFA threads are spiking his BP. 🥵
BL will be the co-conspirator. :ninja:

We would borrow plot elements from The Blues Brothers to achieve this. He'll even get a pair of commemorative Ray-Ban Wayfarers. 😎
First, we pick him up at his house and explain things to this wife. 👰‍♀️

Then we get BL to drive him in the Bongo Mobile (A black & white Tesla) to the range. ⚡🚓
At the range, we expose him to SBR's suppressors, and MG's until...

Afterwards, we take him to lunch and toast his redemption. 🍻

Then help him fill out his first Form 4 for a can, and find the best deal on a Model 3. ;)

No Patriots were harmed in the making of this film. 🫡

I would first like two fried chickens and dry white toast.

About GM and Ford...

Yea they spent truckloads of money and in their unavoidable decision to pare back production of their EVs because they suck and nobody wants them, they owe suppliers big bucks. They over committed and have to pay up. This is what happens when you arent vertically integrated and have a thousand companies making so many of the parts that go into your cars.

Let's also examine the fact that they are doing write downs (which is different than write offs) for spending money on things that did not make money and are now worth less than what they paid. I'd be willing to bet that a different but equally large portion of those huge losses are write offs... Meaning tax deductible losses that were caused by the government mandates or regulatory pressure to build EVs. The bottom line is how these billion dollar losses are being accounted for on their books. Dont be so quick to believe the media bullshit that GM and or Ford just burned billions of dollars and got nothing. They got patents and did R&D on new product development like batteries and such. And new production methods. That all will have future value. And they fucking know it.

The general public are idiots when it comes to finance. People that cant balance their checkbook buy these bullshit headlines and take them for face value. Consider that carmakers use these stories of gloom to justify reducing staff. That's hard to do with the auto worker unions. It's in Ford and GMs interest to tell the world the company is in trouble and needs to downsize. Close some facilities for the greater good and long term health of the company. The truth is, all they care about are institutional shareholders. Who did not punish them for making multi billion dollar mistakes. The stock only takes a 2% dip after they blew 6 billion and got nothing? Right. I have a machine that extracts gold from seawater I'd like to sell anybody that believes that. Wall Street knows the money spent didnt just vaporize. It has tangible forward earnings value.

I bought 5000 shares of Ford stock at $2 per share in 2009. Lots of people were saying they were done. I sold it in 2013 for $17. Do the math on that. It's trading at 14 today. The only truth in this EV debacle is Big Auto proved once again it cannot be agile enough to respond to market forces. They are constrained by two things... union contracts and a corporate culture that resists change. They have to reinvent themselves. And they will. They just cant do it in the time Biden and his merry band of idiots told them to. Ten years from now Ford and GM will be cranking out EVs like a mofo. Like I said. There's going to be one in every driveway in the next 10-12 years. In 20 years gasoline cars will be a chapter in history.

I've seen similar photos / memes over the years. I believe they are staged or intended as jokes. Such an arrangement would take FORever and a shit-ton of gasoline to charge an EV.
Yep. Home charger is 7000-8000 watts. You can get a portable generator in that league (I have an 8000) but it's heavy as Hell and burns a gallon of propane every hour. It can also burn gasoline but I have never put any in it.

It identifies as a hybrid...

2015 i3. An antique.
Don't talk about my future first EV like that! The price of those things is rapidly plummeting into the 4 digit territory where I can afford one. I refuse to spend more on a car than what a nice gun would cost.

I do like the way those cars were built. If we had seriously believed that EVs were the solution to the coming Climate Apocalypse then we would all be driving lightweight, simple EVs like that. The body is made of carbon fiber, the interior is make with sustainable materials. Some of them sport bamboo dashboards! It actually turns out to be a great lightweight, economical in-town people mover. Which is 90% of my driving needs. Unexpected bonus, the super skinny tires work amazingly well on icy roads.

I am holding out for one of the later versions that has the 120 a/h battery, d/c fast charging and the Rex engine. They also still had buttons instead of screens and mechanical door handles in the way bygone era of the early 20's.

I’d get a used Tesla. I’ve had a bunch of beemers. Parts and maintenance if you need it is in the stratosphere. I bought one then leased the rest. The lease was very liberating. I’d take it in and they would tell me what needed to be done. I’d say… I don’t give a shit. Just do it. Didn’t cost me a nickel. :) BMWs are always in the shop.
