So who is Anika? (background, etc.)

She's an accomplished drummer from Germany... a recent rising star. Biggest previous gig was touring with Jeff Beck. She previously did a fair bit of jazz fusion type playing.

Given her performance last night, I don't think they could have picked a better person for this position.

More Anika! Holy crap, she's amazing. Perfect fit for Rush! Listen to the audience reactions! After the first fill, you can hear one guy say, "FUCK YEAH!" On the next fill, he just laughs out loud, "Yeah-hahahaha!". They love her! She stepped up and deserves the love and accolades.

I think I have my new favorite drummer. Holy shit, she's good. My new favorite drummer is a girl!

The more I see, the more I'm in awe of her talent. Holy shit. We are witnessing something truly extraordinary. This is a jaw-dropping performance in the drum break. Holy holy holy shit. I've got the video cued up to a few seconds before she goes into "beast mode!"

So, I'm seeing lots of ads here lately for digital MP3 players trying to get peeps to buy one and ditch the Spotify/Apple Music/Amazon/Tidal, etc. subscription, the ads that go with it, and the annoying habit of the algorithm to vear off into music LaLa land thinking you will like "similar" artists that it picks. No, if I wanted to listen to Bob Dylan sing through his nose, I would have chosen him. Now give be back my CCR. Totally kills the vibe when it does that.

This seems kinda odd to me that folks haven't been using their phones to perform this function all along for free. I have 15K+ songs on my phone and Bluetooth it to the car radio, and the Boze in the house. Been doing this for years. Why buy another device to tote around?

I arrange the file folders by genre, so when I'm in the mood for Jazz, I select Nora Jones and chill. If I'm in the mood for Rock, I select that folder and all my favs are right there, in alphabetical order by artist.

Isn't anyone else doing this?

Many years ago, I collected a couple hundred Apple songs on my iPod. It was the only digital music source at the time... and I hate anything Apple. I think Apple now has gone completely to streaming. I suppose I still own those songs, though I can't play them on my Android phone. I have a few songs I bought from Amazon, since then. But the only time I listen to music on my phone is if I'm on an airplane.

In the car, on my commute, I LOVE my XM radio. No ads. Tons of good stations / music to choose from. Of course, I don't get to choose the exact songs being played. But I move around from station to station.

I've never ever even tried the music streaming services. I'm just not a "streaming" guy. I don't use any of the TV streaming services, either.

If I can't BUY the music, I'm not interested. I'm not interested in "renting" the music via "streaming." And then STILL get ads??? Fuggedaboutit!

I have a folder "Music" on the 128Gb SD card in my phone. Occasionally I'll connect the phone to the shop stereo via mini-jack. I like to play complete "albums" on mp3 as I would listen to them on vinyl back in the day. Plus I don't have to flip the record! :D I'll go through from time to time and delete/add artists and albums. I don't generally listen to "genres", I'll mix it up with hip-hop or country or whatever.

I have a standalone mp3 player I used to use. Small with a mini-jack, takes an AAA battery. Only holding 2Gb limits the amount of songs it holds so it just sits, unused.

I picked up a set of Walkers BT ear muffs. I have successfully paired them with my phone but haven't had a chance to use them working in the shop. I haven't felt the need to listen to music at the range... :)
