What ya listening to?

You can buy an Audio CD from debay, "rip" the songs from it into mp3 on your computer, then have the album for life, no streaming req'd. If you allow Windows to, it will find the track info off the web and title the ripped songs for you. Otherwise the songs will require manual naming. I use Media Player to do this... There were a few albums Win couldn't find the info for so I had to title them myself. All my audio CDs have been converted to mp3.

I also had Bearshare for a number of years and downloaded an S-load of songs from them. Most were "protected" WMA fuckyou files and would only play for 30 days or something like that. I had another program "SoundTaxi" that would play the song at 2X and record it into mp3.

I have 10s of 1000s of mp3s so streaming anything is not a desirable or necessary option for me. I have bought songs from Amazon for a buck or two each and I "own" those.

Amazon can be a real good source, and yes you own it and can play in through/on any device

Ripping CD’s is quite popular. Some time back I was able to get some of my CD’s into my ITines acct if I recall.

I just learned about this. Hilarious. The Mamas & The Papas were to perform "California Dreamin'" on the Ed Sullivan Show. They wanted to perform live. The producers insisted on lip syncing.

The result is hilarious. They totally fucked with the producers in the performance.

I think I posted this somewhere, she was eating a banana...

Wow! I remember seeing John Stamos in the Beach Boys "Kokomo" video, thinking it was a gimmick having an actor "play" the drums.

I had NO idea. If he wasn't an actor, he could DEFINITELY be a pro drummer. There are other actors who play in bands (Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, and others), but... well.... I've never been impressed by any of them. But THIS time??? Holy shit, he's really VERY good. We're not worthy! We're not worthy! Kudos. Really.

Drumeo does this as a series with pro drummers from one genre and challenging them to play a song they've never heard from another genre.

Watch this video all the way through. Impressive. And he's a funny guy, too.

I've watched/listened to a few of these and can't understand how ANYONE could NOT have heard some of these songs. What fucking rock are these MF-ers living under? 🤔 ;)

Oh, I could see it. Easily. There is a LOT of music and a LOT of pop and country artists I've never heard of. I don't listen to pop or country radio. I also don't listen to death metal. So, as much as I listen to music, it's quite limited in terms of genre.

You know how when you ask people which kind of music they listen to, and they say, "Oh, I like everything?" I'm not that person AT ALL. I listen to ROCK. That's IT. A few different sub-genres, sure.... classic rock, progressive rock, hard rock, 80s' Hair, and some metal. But if you throw a pop or country or rap song or artist at me... no clue.

In any case... what these guys are doing on this Drumeo series is VERY DIFFICULT.

I AM that person. ;) From Reggae to Rap, Classical to Country, I can listen to it all. I'm not saying I 100% LIKE everything, but I can tolerate it. Down on the list would be Jazz because I find it unstructured and boring. And perhaps Native/Aboriginal "music" because I don't understand the lyrics? I go through "phases" of what presets are on the radio. It is mainly background noise to accompany the voices in my head... :D

I think to be able to beat the skins you need to be able to appreciate the different beats you may come across. So maybe Stamos is Soft/Pop-Rock radio guy? 🤔 For Metal/Hard-Rock just make that beat a little harder? To do Pop or Dance, make the beat a little quicker? Open your mind... :D

I know what I like and I like what I like.

Mind you... I can appreciate musicianship and talent in other genres, even if I don't listen to them. For example... Lady Gaga... SUPER-talented. But would I listen to her music on purpose? Nope. I'm a rocker. That's it. I'm simple.

It's not being close-minded. It's knowing what I enjoy. I'm the same way at a restaurant. When I find a dish I really like, I will order THAT dish and ONLY that dish at that restaurant. Every single time I go there. Why not try something else? To me, I think why order something else when I KNOW I'm going to REALLY enjoy the dish I already like.

Typing of Montreux , which I was, I present Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple

View: https://youtu.be/Q2FzZSBD5LE

And I bring back Smoke on the Water as I am listening to it and thinking "Some stupid with a sparkler burned the place to the ground"
Heartbroken about the people killed and injured in the fire at the ski resort in Crans-Montana, Switzerland last night

In the spirit of variety, I hit one of the "other" presets on the shop stereo. ;) Usually it is NPR--at night they air the BBC broadcast which is sometimes tolerable. Then there are a couple country stations that are OK--one plays "old" country on Saturday nights. :) The other stations are a "classic" rock, a new rock/heavy metal, an alternative rock and a "mix" station that I put it on tonight. The mix included Gaga, Kesha, Taylor, Shaboozey, Post, Avril, Justin and a bunch of others I know but can't remember. Sort of a pop/soft rock mix. Reminds me of music my kids and I listened to in the car when they were young--they got to pick the station.

I do have over 1000 mp3s on my S9 I can listen to. The stereo is older so I have to use a double RCA to mini-jack adapter to connect--no BlueTooth here! :)

PS: there was a conservative talk station I used to listen to (Dana, Hannity, Rush, Levin) but they moved to a different tower and frequency and I couldn't pick them up anymore. Fucking Spanish station took their frequency! 😠 But that station is now the mix station.

Good music is timeless. It stands the test of time. I love certain Classical, jazz, Jazz fusion, pop, rock. Played double bass in Orchestra, Bass in Jazz band, Choral work (in High School) then the rock band things for 40 years- so that gave me that background as a musician I absorbed.....but aside from Haggard (Roy Nichols was a PHENOMENAL PLAYER). not into country...yeah I'm a rocker through and through.

I still love Mancini's work...the Theme to Peter Gunn ROCKS real hard, so many other greats he composed. Sountracks are their own thing with movies. Gladiator. Timeless. So much good stuff...what is served-up today in many circles is absolutely talentless. PINK is talented. So is Gaga. But I won't listen to either of them. Too many other greats out there...and they are better.

I too am a creature of habit at eateries we like....but lately I've tried branching out just a bit and for the most part, it wasn't a flop. Some new dishes I wouldn't order again. though. I like restaurants that are consistent in their quality, and usually order the same thing. hehehe

Of those, I recognize ONE.... Gaga. LOL!
