Who knew about these frames? "Grit Grips."

I’ve heard noting but raves for the Walther, but have had zero personal experience with them.
If I had to decide, I'd say the Walther PDP is the best designed striker handgun on the market today. I'd switch my EDC if my Hellcats weren't as comfortable as an old shoe. It's fun to have a carry rotation of different guns, but in a practical sense, it is smart to carry the same gun every day and practice with it like it's your job. I've had to switch carry or duty guns a lot in the past. Out of necessity. The need to be discrete, concealment, etc. Now, I tend to stick with the Hellcat most of the time. Occasionally a pocket gun in 380 or 22 mag. For those light days. :)

Rent the new PDP at your range and I bet you'll walk out the door with a new friend!

I do love the feel of my Hellcat grip but not a big fan of the grips on my 911 .380 Springfield. My wife has a S&W easy not a fan of the grips on that one but there ok.

After I stipple, I do polish the grip down to cut the aggressive feel. My hands have gotten softer now that I have retired and not polishing steel. Love the feel and looks of wood grips.

This reminds me I want to try some checkering on walnut grips.
I did a checkering job years ago that was border line crap, but it was the first time I ever tried to checker. I have more patience now.

That's real art form if done by hand.

I had a chance to briefly observe a man in NJ whose specialty was doing checkering on rifle stocks. I brought in a Savage Model 99 for some restoration work on the stock that was beyond my ability. That's a very collectable rifle and I wanted it done right. The Model 99 is a hammerless lever action. Some say one of the best and most popular deer rifles ever made. Discontinued a long time ago.

I definitely don't have the patience or skill to do checkering.

Yes!! I always wanted a 99. So elegant. Never had the chance to own one.

I've seen the early models go for $2500-$3000! Newer.... $800-1500.

I found mine at an estate sale in FL. I had just returned to the US and was taking some time off. Going to an estate sale on a Saturday was an unusual lark. Something to do. There it was. Beat up pretty bad but not rusted up. $150. o_O

Sold at auction. I lost the photos somewhere along the way but here's what it looked like.

Update #1 on Grit Grips. Make sure you have a copy of you FFL's license and send it to them. Or have your FFL do that because the Grit Grip folks do nothing until that happens. Some sellers look up the license if you give them the FFLs name and address, but Grit isnt one of those. They haven't shipped yet because my FFL didnt send a copy of their license - nor did they ask him to. They leave that up to the buyer.

I have a PDF of the FFL I use. Every Peddler I buy a firearm from gets
sent the PDF and if they require a hard copy they get that too from
me. SO far (knock on wood)they haven't had him send one yet. He
works shift work at one of the mines and as such isn't on days but
10 days a month. That's when he sends out paperwork to those who
only accept FFL's from the address on the form. I've been lucky so
far and the primary folks I deal with know me. So as a known offender
they send my stuff. (With the right paperwork)

That's the best way to go. I had an FFL in GA who gave me a PDF of his license. That saved a lot of time. My local FFL guys are part timers as well, slow to respond.
@Bongo Lewi Was your FFL on their list of FFL's?
yes

UPDATE: I ended up sending a copy of the FFL to Grit Grips. The replied that as a courtesy, they do contact the FFL and ask. But a week after my purchase they had not done that. Maybe they were just behind. They sent a tracking # same day. All good.

Nice grip. The protruding sort-of gas pedal thingy is nice. Especially for those who have trouble remembering where their left thumb belongs. The trigger... meh. Not bad, not great. Generally P80/3rd party-ish. Long and gritty. Reset is not bad though. The trigger shoe binds if you don't pull the dingus squarely. That's a non-starter for a carry gun.

I tossed a PSA Dagger slide on it just to have a look and dry fire it a few times. Raining today so I wont have a chance to put a few rounds thru it. The stipple is soft ... like a nipple with some gripple. Well done. It feels good in the hand.

"If it ain't raining, we ain't training", sez the ex-squid who
hung out with 75th Field Arty folks at one time. Lots of
chiggers in Chiggerville and I still hate the red concrete.

I admit it. I hate being wet and trudging thru wet climates.

Sunny tropical beaches and surf... I'm good. Bogs and rainforests? Screw that. I went out of my way to avoid those climates and for the most part succeeded. I do love the desert though. I miss that hot dry air and cool nights.

I've decided to swap out the trigger for a Johnny Glock. Probably go with the combat version. The competition model is too light for a general purpose pistol. I will not order the upgrade striker and trigger shoe from Johnny. It's a nice upgrade but the gun isnt worth that kind of investment.
