'24 Subaru Outback - New Owner Diary

Regarding our own maint/repairs….I've been into cars since I was 12 and replaced my first camshaft at age 13; and spent over 25 years in the automotive industry via a public utility company. I got out the automotive sector in 2000, and was still doing 90% my own maint 90% and all the oil changes on our 530i; but in 2022 that changed. We have a local place we trust that does our oil & filters- just changed over to full synthetic on the ‘94 S10 V6, and on the 2006 V6 Altima- I supply the oil and filters and they do the work.

I can’t say I miss much of it, if at all. I just check fluid levels, tire pressures, and keep them fueled anymore. Lololol. But I’ll do what I can and avoid spending $$$ on that wherever we can.

That red looks sharp!

I'll eventually get some photos of my new "whip." It's rained almost every day since I got it, and I didn't have time to wash it, yet. Maybe next weekend.
Can’t wait to see it! Black is gorgeous but shows everything…I had 4 consecutive black vehicles. Heeharrhee. And will again!

Yeah... this is my 3rd black car. They look great when clean!

This Outback is all black... even the wheels. And also the "Outback" nameplate on the back is blacked out.

First wash! Finally. I've had it almost 2 weeks. I drove it home in the rain. And it's rained almost every day since! And then the pine trees decided to dump pollen.

First a good rinse with the pressure washer. Then hit it with the foam cannon!

Then rinse again. Then a hand wash. Hand dry. Dress the wheels and tires. And, dayummm! She looks purty!

I was soaked in sweat by the end. Drank a 28-oz Powerade.

Applied the 2nd coat of Cerakote today. As I type, I'm letting the Griot's Garage Glass Sealant (like Rain-X) dry before buffing it off. I want this car as "slippery" to dirt and grime as possible! Especially since it's black!

Getting my exercise this weekend!

Finished the Cerakote and glass treatment just in time!

Hit the 1,000 mile mark today. So break-in rule (keeping it under 4k rpm) is over. Time to drop the hammer and see what this thing can do!

I goosed it getting on the highway today. Wound it up to about 6000 rpm. I was impressed. For a nearly 4000 lb vehicle, it moves!

Ready for anything...

Trunk organizer.

"Jump box" and tire inflator. I also have a plug kit.

Looks like we've both been making just in case additions.. I recently made an addition to the bed of my Jeep Gladiator. The swing out storage containers hold kinetic rope, tow straps, snatch blocks, soft shackles, etc.. (recovery equipment), but there's been a few times I've wished I had an axe/hatchet....so i did something about it. It's a nice addition to my body armor, 7 mags, and Carbine that stays behind the backseat as well. 😁

I just completed a "1500-mile break-in" oil change. I figured it can't hurt to do a "break-in" oil change, even though it is not recommended by the manufacturer. The first scheduled oil change is 6000 miles, and I'll be a good boy and take it to the dealer service department.

Changing the oil is super-easy with this car. You won't believe where the oil filter is!

Used OEM / factory oil and filter.

I like the setup on that car with the oil filter drip tray! (y) Charge cooler is fed by a hood scoop?

PS: I'm not a fan of 0w-20 for warmer climates, though...
