Does anyone carry one of their builds?

Just to be clear, while I am in favor of, and do respect all LEO's, I stand where I stand in not trusting them. Yes, Respecting someone's position, and trusting that someone are completely different worlds. I do personally feel law enforcement officers should have some sort of Law Related schooling. Not just a high school diploma and not be a felon. While it does suck that they are underpaid, and I do agree it is definitely a problem, I'm also on the side of, Minimum pay for minimum skills.
While I can agree with part of this, I'd have to say that having a felony record should not be a deciding factor. People are capable of changing you see it all the time, exaddicts becoming drug counselors. I'd go as far as to say they can relate and therefore through life experiences be better equipped to help an addict in active addiction. There are so many people that have made a dumb decision and been charged with a felony. Only to reform and become productive members of society. Now of course we don't want Jeffery Dahmer being a l.e.o. or someone like Charles Manson either. But maybe an addict that has a felony should be allowed to be a narcotics officer. A street racer a traffic cop. Ect ect. I think it should be based on someone's morals, more so than 1 mistake disqualifying someone. Maybe if department of correction actually corrected behavior through rehabilitation community service and other positive reinforcements rather than putting little Johnny in college classes for criminals aka prisons and jails for whooping someone's ass who was beating on their girl, and happened to draw blood, witch makes battery a felony, maybe they should make johnny a police officer. Just saying. Jails are full of people who grew up with out a father in the house, and people that aren't well off. The founding fathers of this country are rolling over in their graves at what this country has and is becoming.

One of my favorite TV programs is FIRST 48 on A&E.
I can binge watch it for days.
“We just want to talk, hear your side of the story”.
That’s a hard NO.
They’re handing you a rope and it’s up to you to either hang yourself or make a pretty bow.
Don’t even try.
Even as a hardened criminal you’re not in that situation every day, let alone as a ‘normal’ citizen and that creates a very skewed gradient.
You can tell the experienced career criminals, they’ll state they want a lawyer.
There are plenty of examples where a somewhat dubious shooting was determined to be a crime in the very first interview.
I have a lot of respect for LE. Genuinely. BUT... if I'm ever in the unfortunate situation of being interviewed or interrogated about ANY kind of incident... I know to STFU. Do not say a fucking thing. NOTHING.

There is nothing you can say that will help you. That's why they tell you (Mirandize), "Anything you say CAN and WILL be used AGAINST you." Not FOR you. NOTHING you say can be used in your favor. BY FREAKIN' LAW.

The much longer legal version that is STILL worth watching:

I agree with the idea that convicted felons, once debt is repaid to society, need to have a path to be mainstream and even have rights restored. I say that with the caveat that if there is fear that said individual poses some sort of a danger such that they should not be allowed to a gun legally then that said individual should still be in jail because that individual will be able to illegally acquire a gun and cause harm. Even with that in mind, to allow a convicted felon to acquire positions of authority over others like LEOs, I'm inclined to draw a line and not let that happen. Not only from a trust factor but also from a liability factor - can you imagine the payouts awarded by a jury when the felon now cop does something wrong?

Most of us have more money invested in our builds than, say, a stock glock. So should any incident occur that would deprive me of my weapon, even temporarily, I would prefer it to be the cheaper one. I carry either my G43 or 26 instead of their pmf versions, which I have a lot more in
True! If you use it in a real world defensive situation, say goodbye to that gun for a while. None of the guns I built were cheaper than factory. I could definitely buy a factory G19 or G43 for less. I tend to put together the best parts I can find vs. seek the bargain priced components. Others go for low cost. It's a personal preference.

My EDC is always bone stock for a variety of reasons. Ammo... I don't use anything "exotic". But they are solid copper, composite or TUIs. Not typical LEO loads.

I don't think any of our builds were of equal cost to a factory unit. Always cost more $$. That's one of the reasons I'm not building any others for the unforeseeable future. The flip side is, unless you find a box-stock unit that ticks all your boxes, at least you can build it exactly like you want it. For a price, of course.

I've a GSSF coupon I need to use in the next 5 or so.

On the topic of felons, I am on the other side of that fence. Zero tolerance. Don't do the crime if you cant do the time (or want to own a firearm ever again). Recidivism is 68% - arrested again within 3 years. There is no way anyone can predict the future or decide which felons are in the 32% that won't commit another crime. I have empathy for someone who had a shitty childhood. I think an ex-con deserves a chance to re-join a community after serving time. But I don't trust him with a gun. Ever. Someone who commits a crime may not be dangerous or violent, but they have proven that they have difficulty with restraint, impulse control, and demonstrate poor judgement.

OK same overall subject- I've a nifty SIG P938 that I've been carrying, as it's very svelte and easily disappears. I haven't carried my pet PMF SC build yet. It is a fat little sucker in comparison to the SIG, but with a flannel shirt worn untucked, shouldn't be much more difficult to keep out of view.

The SIG is OEM. I may (or may not) upgrade the sear spring and mainspring housing to the OEM V2 versions (there were issues with V1) as mine was made in 2014 before the change, and am considering changing the hammer spring & firing pin spring to the MCARBO kit. I'm not going to replace the shoe with an aftermkt unit. If SIG finally offers the LEGION trigger shoe alacarte, then I might.

My PMF SC does NOT have a std Glock trigger per se', but DOES have all Glock OEM triggerwork aside from the RangerProof shoe itself. The frame is NOT serialized. Down here in So OR, I don't think that's a big issue, but I may hunt-down the instructions here on the forum for etching your own # just for grins. I dunno.

I'm looking at the S&W CSX as a factory alternative for a high-capacity micro-9mm carry, as I think it's less bulky than my SC, and is FACTORY issue. I've read reports about its trigger- some hate it, some say it's great. My salesperson at one of our LGS' here when I asked them if they had one in stock "no" was the answer but said they could get it literally overnight, and they said it was their own carry weapon of choice. I asked about the trigger on theirs- theirs was very, VERY good, and overall it's been their favorite EDC unit to date. Go figure.

I could also carry my Echelon (need a holster for it) but that sucker is full-size and being a double-stack unit, wider than a 1911. I'm not sure that's the right carry choice for my build, though. I could probably carry an officer's or Commander comfortably concealed. Point being, I'm not a walking tree-trunk. lol. Also uncomfortable about carrying with a loaded weapon pointing at certain bits, ie appendix carry. Right now, I feel most comfortable with OWB, on the hip, concealed.

Let's not forget the many felons that never got busted & convicted ....that includes some that may have been voted-in, or work for the US Govt in come capacity.

Personally, I believe each case should be weighed individually, and carefully. YMMV.

Sure. Or cops. Some of them are crazy too. Sooner or later their undesirable tendencies catches up with them. Same goes for criminals. A prosecutor once said to me that there's a million ways someone can screw up. A genius can only think of half a million. Sooner or later they make a mistake and get caught. The tools and technology prosecutors and law enforcement have today are remarkable. They are gonna get ya no matter how smart you may be. One oversight is all it takes. Also consider that most criminals are either stupid, deranged, or both.

If society is going to invest in making the legal system better or perhaps more equitable, I'd prefer that energy go into making sure an innocent man doesn't get convicted. The already convicted have proven they can't be trusted.

I have looked carefully at the CSX and it looked like a winner to me. I shot one right after they came out. I also read all the comments about the trigger. Mostly YouTube wing nuts. The negatives some of them cited was not my experience with the CSX at all. It seemed like a well made, well designed sub compact to me. I saw nothing about it that would discourage me from carrying one. Compared to the Sig 938, which I have had for a long time, I would prefer the CSX. The little SIG is a fine pocket gun though. I found it superior to its closest competitor, the Kimber Micro 9.

Some, yes. Except for those wrongly convicted .... I've always said trust once broken, must be earned.

Thanks, BL. I've not yet had my mitts on one. Hope to change that soon. Nice to hear you've had some stick time with one to experience it firsthand. That's two now. My hunch seems to be in the right direction.

Yeah he's the "clown" I referred to in another thread about his ".45AARP" & other like comments. Shut up and review gear. Of that he seems to do relatively well. Not saying I agree with all he says. YMMV.

Reeves isnt too bad. He's a bit Hollywood and is sometimes snarky, but the show is well produced. I'll take him over the goofballs that shoot cinderblocks or a rump roast wrapped in a denim jacket. I'm partial to Hickock though.

Sometimes devotees of the 1911 in "God's caliber" get a little carried away with their affection. That invites some blowback. I definitely consider myself a 1911 fan and I firmly believe the 45 remains a viable defensive round 100 years later. Hell, I have some antique .25 auto pistols that I still enjoy shooting every now and then. I'm polyamorous when it comes to guns and ammo.

Yep Reeves does a good show overall, and I agree with your examples of some others. Reeves was with a Glock rep featuring two new models (one .45 and one 10mm IIRC) and was pretty transparent about his dismissiveness of the .45ACP. (that cartridge has seen over 105 years of continuous service somewhere around the world for a reason). So I'm not so sure his objectivity isn't unclouded by his bias...but like all things, eat the meat and spit out da bones. He does seem like a hoot to be around.

Hickock is one of a kind, isn't he? I like him.

"God's caliber" indeed. Pfft. I bristle when I hear that...definitely invites blowback. Leading with the chin.

IMHO, a lot of what comes off as snarky, to me is his sense of humor kicking in and at times it seems he's trolling the keyboard commandos! At least to me, it's absolutely hilarious! 🤪

The YouTube reviewers that bug me the most are the Pillsbury Dough Boys who try to project a badass image - like they are Operators taking a break from the action to do YouTube videos. Let me just say... in my experience there are few true badasses sitting in the basement talking about guns on their YouTube channel.

These posers predictably trash new guns because negative stories get more attention. Also, a poor carpenter always blames his tools. I've been at this a long time and shot a lot of guns. When I get my hands on something new, it's usually difficult for me to find something wrong with it. My only exception is factory defects. That doesn't sit well with me. It's why I don't like Kimber. Their quality flew out the window 15 years ago. Others say the problem goes back to the late 90's.

For the same reason, I'm sometimes torn about DIY guns of any ilk. The workmanship that goes into the gun matters so much as everybody here knows. I think a very large number of 80% pistols and ARs were done badly. It's an unprovable bias, but that's what I believe.

Yep, trolling for clicks. Using Sensationalism. The hype draws them in like a bad headline during the Hearst (and others) days of "yellow journalism".
I look for reviews from magazines written that I can find online, and even then, I go with my gut. You can sort much of the garbage out like that.

"Also, a poor carpenter always blames his tools."
Such a broad application there- far beyond carpentry.
