Those keys are really small! My pecker stylus is too big for those. :)

My uncle had a 1970's Bulova. The one with the red LED display. I thought that was the coolest thing when I was a kid. Do you have one of those in the collection?

I have a Hamilton re-make of the original Pulsar red LED digital watch made famous in the James Bond movie, Live and Let Die in 1973:

The Hamilton PSR has a cool "upgrade" over the old one. In addition to the LEDs, there are LCDs overlayed which can be seen in the daylight. I made a video to demonstrate with an overhead light on and off.

My second wife gave me her late father's vintage Rolex President as a wedding gift. He was a Wall Street Poobah. Yellow gold. Diamonds on the face. It was really something. No idea what it was worth but I know it was in the stratosphere. I gave it back to her when we split even though she didn't ask. I didn't think it was right to keep it. Nor did we fight over money. She had enough of her own. We split and remain on good terms many years hence. I miss that watch though.

Yeah, that watch would be worth some serious money today.

The Rolex market (especially certain models) has gone berserk in the last few years. You can't even go to a dealer and buy one today. Literally. You cannot walk into an authorized dealer and buy a Submariner... or a Daytona... or an Explorer... or a Sea Dweller... or a GMT-Master, or even a Yachtmaster. The display cases are EMPTY. If they have one, it's marked as "For Exhibition Only." No shit. No amount of money will get you one.

You have to be put on a waiting list. And whether you're REALLY "on the list" depends on whether you're a repeat customer.

OR... You can go to the gray market to get one and pay at least double or triple or even quadruple the retail price.

Supply and demand. They still make them. But demand soared. Then the dealers discovered they could sell them out the back door to gray dealers for a lot more money.

So, now authorized dealers trickle them out to their favored customers on a wait list.

But if you got to an authorized Rolex dealer today, you will not find any of their watches available for sale that day. The few they have in the display case are not for sale. "Exhibition Only." No shit. That's the label next to each watch. I should have gotten a photo of that when I was in the watch stores in Vegas. I went into several. No new Rolexes available for sale by any authorized dealer.

It's crazy. It's crazy because as good as Rolex watches are... they're not THAT good. There are many other brands as good or better... are available... and in some cases cost less.

Try to sell a Rolex outright and you will see what they are really worth.

A good friend passed away. I was helping his widow sell his 18K all gold Rolex. Box, papers, everything, just as it came from the Rolex dealer. Every offer from usual sources was nothing more than the gold content about $2500 at the time. Odd, not one cent for the name on the dial. Lets not get into Rolex's insane requirements for service and repairs. I'm sure an authorized dealer would have offered an impressive number on a trade for a new Rolex but that is not what she wanted.

My friend wore that watch every day for 30 years. It brought him immense pleasure. He was a race car driver at one time and appreciated fine machinery. To him, Rolex was the best he could afford. As with racing, there is always better but the cost escalates rapidly past a certain point with little to gain.

Fuck Rolex and their fanboys and fangirls. I'm a pretty good watch spotter and I can't discern a Rolex from an Invicta copy at greater than 2 feet. 2 feet is inside the personal space of most people so I don't go there.
